No one forgets the joy of receiving their first bicycle. A bicycle empowers a child, giving them their first taste of true independence, self-reliance, self-esteem, and helping build the foundation of a healthy lifestyle.

But millions of children may never experience these joys - their lives are not favored by fortune or circumstance - a bicycle is luxury their family cannot afford.

Bikes for Tykes is dedicated to providing a pre-loved bicycle to every deserving child in America.

Through the help and support of our volunteers and donors we bestow the gifts of freedom, confidence, self-esteem, and fitness.

Bikes for Tykes is a 'green' initiative - refurbishing gently-used pre-loved bicycles to create a renewable resource from the millions of bicycles that are unused, abandoned, or discarded in overburdened landfills.

At BFT, we will, to the best of each Chapter’s ability, make the following possible to every deserving child in America.

An attractive mechanically sound bicycle
All necessary safety equipment including helmet
Lessons in safe riding skills
Hosted bicycle rodeos, and group rides ain parks, trails, etc.
Encouragement, support & guidance on fun and safe routes & cycling activities to realize the maximum benefit from your gift

Through our all-volunteer national organization, and our family of local chapters, Bikes for Tykes raises funds & resources and uses all the money & time to acquire and refurbish bicycles and develop the programs that make this mission successful.

Bikes for Tykes extends an invitation and challenge to Corporate America to allow us access to damaged and returned bicycle products that can be repaired by our volunteer staffs rather than sent to our over-burdened landfills or to salvagers that pay near nothing.
